LIPOSUCTION
Also known as Lipoplasty, Liposuction is a common plastic surgery procedure that removes excess fat from specific areas of the body. Many times, localized fat deposits (LFDs) develop in various regions of the body. These areas usually persist in spite of proper diet and exercise, which contributes to an undesirable appearance of the figure. Following Liposuction, patients can expect a slimmer, shapelier appearance; however, this countouring procedure is not a substitute for weight reduction.
Liposuction can be performed alone or combined with other procedures such as the Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck).
Liposuction is not an effective treatment for cellulite or weight loss. Individuals who consider Liposuction should be healthy and relatively fit, have firm, elastic skin and good muscle tone. Your surgeon will review the benefits and risks of surgery with you in your consultation and will be sure you have realistic goals for the outcome.
Liposuction procedures may last as little as one hour or as long as five hours, depending on the extent of the procedure and the technique that is used. Although smaller procedures may be performed entirely under local anesthesia, we prefer general anesthesia in most cases for the best patient safety and comfort.
